INSTALLATION

Install the firmware.

Both the custom firmware and recovery downloads are saved as XDJ1KMK2.UPD. Download them separately, and keep only the version you intend to install on your update USB. Do not mix the two files.

Prepare your USB

XDJ–1000MK2
  1. Download the firmware above. If you also need the recovery package, save it separately in a clearly labelled folder on your computer.
  2. Prepare a USB storage device formatted as FAT or FAT32. Copy the selected XDJ1KMK2.UPD file to the root (top level) of the USB drive, not inside a folder.
  3. Confirm there is only one firmware update file on the USB drive, then safely eject it.
  4. Power off the XDJ-1000MK2. Disconnect all USB devices, LINK cables and computers from the player.
  5. Press and hold both IN (LOOP IN) and RELOOP/EXIT while turning on the player.
  6. When the screen asks you to connect a USB storage device to the top USB port, release both buttons.
  7. Insert the prepared USB drive containing XDJ1KMK2.UPD into the top USB port. The update starts automatically and displays a progress bar.
  8. Do not turn off the player or remove the USB drive while the update is running. The normal update takes approximately three minutes.
  9. Once the screen confirms the firmware update is complete and instructs you to power-cycle the player, turn it off and remove the USB drive. Turn it back on before use.
  10. To check the installed version, hold MENU / UTILITY for more than one second, then use the rotary selector to find the firmware version in the Utility menu.

Update failure: If the progress bar stops and the completion message has not appeared after 10 minutes, or if a MAIN/PANEL firmware update failure is shown, stop and seek appropriate service or recovery guidance. Do not repeatedly interrupt or power-cycle an active update.

These steps describe the XDJ-1000MK2 update sequence in our own words. The custom firmware and community recovery package are independently prepared files, not official Pioneer DJ firmware releases.

RECOVERY

Return to stock firmware.

Our community-prepared recovery firmware is intended for XDJ-1000MK2 players that cannot return to the original Pioneer DJ firmware through the standard update process after installing modified firmware.

Recovery firmware

Separate from the custom release

This is not a byte-for-byte copy of Pioneer's official update package. It is a specially prepared recovery package intended to restore stock firmware functionality.

Use this package when you specifically intend to return to stock firmware. It is a community-prepared recovery file, not an official Pioneer DJ release.

Same filename, different purpose: Recovery and the custom firmware both download as XDJ1KMK2.UPD. Save them in separate folders and copy only the file you intend to use to your update USB. See installation steps above.
